Blount Memorial cancer patients requiring in-hospital care or one-on-one monitoring benefit from a dedicated oncology unit on the 5-east floor of the hospital. The 18,062-square-foot area – staffed by specially trained oncology nurses – features:
- an outpatient treatment area – featuring comfortable recliners and hospital beds – for those who are receiving high-dose chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy, injections, anticoagulation medications and other cancer treatments
- an inpatient nursing unit that includes three negative pressure rooms, also called airborne infection isolation rooms
- an inpatient certified case manager who can assist patients and family members with insurance and specific home care needs after the hospital stay
- spacious family waiting areas
- free Wi-Fi access via a patient’s or visitor’s personal laptop computer
