Blount Memorial Auxiliary options for teens, adults, couples and retirees
The wide variety of Blount Memorial Auxiliary volunteer options ensures that everyone who wants to lend a hand will find a service area well-suited to his or her interests, talents and time availability. Opportunities are available for teens, adults, couples and retirees, and include:
- Staffing information desks (level 1, ground floor, Cancer Center and outpatient entrance) to answer general questions and provide directions to visitors and callers
- Delivering reading materials, including magazines donated by community members, to patients, lounges and lobbies
- Transporting discharged patients from their rooms to waiting transportation
- Receiving flowers, delivering them to patient rooms, and maintaining related receipt and delivery records
- Staffing the Blount Memorial Auxiliary Gift Shop located on the ground floor in the hospital’s main entrance lobby
- Offering calming assistance to visitors and monitoring visitation schedules in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and intensive care unit (ICU) acute care lounges
- Assisting staff, residents and visitors at MorningView Village and the Transitional Care Center at MorningView Village
- Sorting and delivering mail to patients, and forwarding mail to discharged patients
- Assisting the librarian, physicians and visitors in the hospital’s medical library
- Providing support services in various hospital offices, such as medical staff, administration, pharmacy, human resources, wellness and volunteer services
- Greeting outpatient rehabilitation patients and assisting with phone calls and appointments at the Blount Memorial Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers at Springbrook and Tellico West
- Helping with Blount Memorial’s Scrubby Bear pediatric orientation program that introduces early elementary-age children to hospitals and health care, and reinforces the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of germs
- Welcoming new patients and providing basic orientation information designed to make their hospital stay as pleasant as possible
- Quilting with other volunteers to create baby blankets, quilt tops, quilts and other items for hospital and Cancer Center patients
- Greeting surgery patients in the surgical waiting area, and assisting staff with a variety of duties
- Assisting and comforting patients and visitors in the emergency department waiting area
