The Benefits of a Hospital-Based Breast Health Center
Leading-edge breast and bone density diagnostics and imaging
The Blount Memorial Breast Health Center uses the latest tools and techniques to perform a variety of screening and diagnostic exams including:
Screening and Diagnostic Mammography
The center features two, state-of-the-art GE digital mammography systems. These powerful detection tools increase patient comfort, produce faster results and provide physicians with highly detailed images to use in the diagnosis. The average screening exam time can be reduced to 10 to 15 minutes using the new digital system. Diagnostic exam times will vary depending on other tests required.
Computerized Mammography
The center's board-certified, FDA-accredited radiologists use state-of-the-art computer technology to view your mammograms and other diagnostic studies. The new set of digital tools and advanced computerized image processing aids in the detection of cancers at an early, treatable stage.
Breast Ultrasound
A registered ultrasonographer uses state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment to evaluate palpable abnormalities, mammographic abnormalities and to assist in biopsies. There are two ultrasound rooms located in the center. Stereotactic and Ultrasound-Guided Biopsies When needed, breast biopsies are performed using the technique that is most appropriate for each patient. This may be under ultrasound guidance or stereotactic guidance. A fine needle aspiration or core biopsy can be performed at the Breast Health Center as necessary.
Bone Densitometry
A leading-edge bone densitometer is used to measure bone density in the spine and hip to look for evidence of osteoporosis. This simple and painless scan takes only five minutes and can be scheduled for the same day as mammography for patient convenience.
